The rumors started early, when players first saw a binder with a complete set of Revised in the case with the words “Winter is Coming”. Eventually details leaked out: it was to be part of the prizing for Tyler’s first even Magic Invitational.
It began in October with a series of Qualifiers held at several area shops: three at Ground Zero, two at Geek World, two at Three Suns Unlimited and one at the Rose City Comic Con. At each event, the first place winner received an Invitation to the final event. The second place finisher received an “Alternate Invitation”.
Once these eight events were done, the winners and alternated gathered at Ground Zero on Saturday, December 6th for the final event. The top winner would receive the complete set of Revised, the other seven Invitees each would receive a Revised Dual Land. The Alternates would take the place of any Invitees who might be unable to play. However, all eight Invitees were present and ready to play, so the Alternate played in a seperate tournament with an additional Dual Land as the prize.
It was a great day of Magic playing, with some of the best players in the area competing in one place. At the end, Phillip Shoemaker played Patrick Ryzdak for the final prize. It was an intense, close match that went back and forth until Phillip finally pulled out the win!
