Neil Gaiman’s Sandman series is a seminal work. The original run of seventy five issues has been collected into a ten volume set of graphic novels by DC and should be in every comic fan’s library.
There are a couple of volumes outside the original ten volume run. the most notable being The Dream Hunters. The first version of the story combined Gaiman’s text with single illustrations by Yoshitaka Amano and was published in 1999. The story was revisited ten years later with a full comic treatment by P. Craig Russell.
One especially nice facet of the Sandman stories is that you do not need to be familiar with any of the other stories to enjoy them. While we give the original run of Sandman trades our highest recommendation, you do not need to have read those to enjoy this book.
Even better, through the month of August, the hardcover of Sandman: The Dream Hunters is on sale as our August Graphic Novel of the Month. You can save $10 off it’s original price of $24.99.
