It’s the greatest single day of the year – the day when we celebrate that greatest of American art forms: the Comic Book! And what better way to Celebrate Comic Books than to get some FREE ones in your hands!!
If you’re like most of us, you’ve had that dream – you know …THAT dream! The one where you’re in a shop full of nerds, more nerds than you’ve ever seen in the same place. Suddenly you see it: this really cool comic book. Maybe it’s Spider-Man, or Star Wars or Doctor Who or some cool indy comic, but whatever it is – YOU GOTTA HAVE IT! You grab it, maybe it’s the last copy, maybe there’s a whole stack, but you still clutch it to your chest and walk to the counter, which seems to be a really long way off – This IS a dream, after all! Finally, you get to the counter and nervously ask “Excuse me, Sir… how much is this comic book?”
The comic book person (who looks suspiciously like your Aunt Edna) takes the book, scans it, then says “Why it’s….it’s…it’s FREE!!!” Also, he laughs manically and you realize it IS your Aunt Edna! Dreams, huh?
Suddenly dazzling multicolored lights fill the room, the disco music you only now realized was playing swells to a crescendo, hundreds of pigeons fly from behind the counter and you think to yourself “THIS. IS. The GREATEST. DAY. EVER!!”
It’s a common dream, of course. Just about EVERYBODY has had it.
But the best part is waking up and realizing we do that every year (Except not usually with pigeons. We learned our lesson that one time)
This year FREE COMIC BOOK DAY is on Saturday, May 4th at Ground Zero. It runs from 10am until 4pm or whenever we run out of free stuff. As usual, there is a limit of three (3) FCBD titles per customer and they are distributed on a “first come, first served” basis.
This year we will also feature our special guest, award winning children’s book author Robin Hollo. Robin will sign any books of hers that you might have, sell you any that you don’t, chat about magical things and generally enrich your life. She’ll be here from 10am (coincidentally when FREE COMIC BOOK DAY starts) until 2pm, schedule permitting, so get here early!
For further details, call Ground Zero at 903-566-1185 (Ask for Edna)
